Fund-A-Need STEM
The vision of the administration, faculty, staff, and parish community of Corpus Christi is to keep the school on the cutting edge of education. With the elevation to the elite group of schools who has been awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence, we feel confident to continue our focus with the Fund A Need at this year’s Donum Fidei Auction being STEM based. Technology as we know it and use it in the education arena changes quickly. However even as fast as it evolves in the educational classroom, it is not evolving fast enough to keep up with the world outside of education. Our focus remains on giving as many technology experiences as possible to all of our students which gives them a solid foundation to build upon. To this end, we have Windows-based operating systems alongside Apple OSX operating systems. We have interactive whiteboards in each classroom in which the students are active participants in using in their daily lessons. Our teachers are endeavoring to become more mobile in the classroom while presenting or guiding students, instead of being cemented to the front podium manipulating the interactive whiteboard or projector. This ingenuity also allows for students to use the tablet to explain their product, answer, or demonstrate their understanding of a concept. ChromeCast also allows for students to connect to the projector while explaining or presenting their information during class time. Our school is growing, with the growth comes additions to technology. Foundational technology, those piece of technology which are vital to the school’s day-to-day functions includes internet bandwidth. Our current bandwidth is overloaded and programs are sluggish or will not load. Increasing our ChromeBooks will bring 4th through 8th grade on a 1:1 (one-to-one) device, increasing student engagement and decreasing time wasted. We also want to have our Pre-Kindergarten class begin using tablets in the classroom due to the many free applications that will enhance their learning and understanding of standardsbased concepts. LanSchool device monitoring system is the last piece of the technology the school is requesting. LanSchool will give the teachers the ability to monitor laptops so to be able to make sure students are accessing safe websites. This program will also allow the teacher to use the laptop as a completely interactive device. With the fee, the school will get a year-long upgrade option, technical support (including any on-site visits they must make) all included with the price, and we never have to purchase another upgrade if we do not want to. From a science perspective, monies raised this year will be used to purchase science kits for all classrooms in an effort to really make the science curriculum come alive for the students. Science kits are a way for all students, regardless of their academic strengths and weaknesses, to be part of the learning experience as they approach concepts using multiple intelligences and higher level thinking skills. In fact, a visible shift in learning takes place when students become teachers. They take ownership of their projects and become “experts” as they teach others their newly acquired knowledge. Thus, teachers become students as they learn from their students’ progress and exploration.
Our need this year is $90,000.
Your continued support will make this dynamic learning possible for each and every student.
